Holy Spirit…Simply the Pure Breath Word of God

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

John 6:63 NASU

In this verse Jesus says that words are spirit. More specifically Jesus says that his spoken word/spirit produces life; Let me explain.

Proof in the Natural

We are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). The holy attributes of God are obvious in our natural human functions. In establishing a foundational witness to the truth that words and spirit are one, one only has to look to the natural function of words and spirit in all of God’s creation.

The word spirit is a synonym of breath and air. Spirit is this verse is the Greek word pneuma (pnyoo'-mah) which means a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human). Again Jesus said the words which he speaks from the Father are one and the same with his breath.

Naturally Speaking Words by Our Breath

To prove naturally that words and spirit are one please attempt to speak a word while holding your breath/ spirit. Would you please repeat that…I didn’t hear anything?

Only when the spirit or breath in your lungs is released in conjunction with a word from our heart, being naturally transported to our vocal chords is there a discernible sound. Naturally speaking, our words and spirit/breath are one.

Our word/spirit is an expression of our person. In the same way God’s holy word/spirit is an expression of His person.

What is Truly an Outpouring of the Holy Spirit?

God our Father is to be imitated in all things. God always sets the precedent for our life producing actions; which actions by the way always include words and spirit. I often share that God is a dirt farmer. In the same way that God breathed His spirit/word into the first Adam, an earthen vessel we are to breathe and speak life into the garden of the hearts of mankind.

God is always pouring out His spirit  communicating with His sons and daughters. That which we call the holy spirit may be described as a word from God coming forth by His holy breath. The holy spirit is simply a holy word uttered by God. Again this is the same way in which we as created imitators of God are to produce and release an “outpouring” of God’s word which is holy spirit. Remember that Jesus breathed the holy spirit onto the disciples. Jesus was simply communicating specific directions for their lives. Revival fire and life resides in every believer and must be recognized and constantly stirred and released.

Holy Spirit (Breath) Outpouring to both Jew and Gentile Produced Utterances (Words)

That which we understand as outpourings of the holy spirit  scribed in the Bible is without exception manifested as holy/spirit words. On the day of Pentecost when God’s spirit was poured out on the 120 souls they spoke words. Pentecost as prophesied by the Prophet Joel said that all flesh would speak prophetically and communicate messages by dreams and visions.

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind (spirit), and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit was giving them utterance.

Acts 2:1-4 NASU

At the home of Cornelius when the holy spirit was given to the Gentiles they began to speak (words) with diverse tongues as it was in the outpouring to the Jews on the day Pentecost.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the holy spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the holy spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God.

Acts 10:44-46 NASU

Communication, Communication, Communication

An outpouring of the holy spirit is simply communication between our Creator and His created. An outpouring of the holy spirit again is simply God speaking to mankind. Many are crying out for an outpouring of the holy spirit not really expecting to receive power rendering direction from the voice of God. I recently asked a group of Pastors, “What do you believe an outpouring of the holy spirit should look like”?

Not one of the leaders mentioned communication or direction.  I find it so unfortunate that most expectation for an outpouring is future oriented and does not include the present outpouring of holy words which has somehow been hidden from our hearts. God has been breathing His spirit/word on humanity for 6000 years. God’s spirit/word is in us and has been since Adam and Eve were created by His holy breath.

As the Apostle Paul declared to the Apostle Timothy…

For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift (revival fire;  life) of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity (shame), but (a spirit/word) of power and love and discipline.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 NASU

Jesus Receives Direction by an Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Jesus is always our example in imitating the ways of our Father. At the Jordan River Jesus received an outpouring of the holy spirit while being baptized by John the Baptist. The spirit/word spoke to Jesus concerning his direction and purpose in ministry.

We know that God spoke the words/spirit from the writings of the Prophet Isaiah found in Isaiah 61:1-3. When Jesus appeared in the temple a few hours later he confirmed that his immersion in the word/spirit had indeed communicated the fulfilling of the appearance of himself as Messiah just as prophesied by Isaiah.

His direction from this outpouring of the spirit or word of God included initially direction into a wilderness journey in which he was tempted by all that the world has to offer. Jesus from the outpouring at the Jordan River spoke with great authority declaring his adoption as a mature son of God and thereby with great power defeated the devil.

Jesus Full of Holy Spirit/word Comes Forth in Power

The Gospel of Luke confirms this present understanding of the holy spirit as being one and the same as the spirit word of God. Luke says that Jesus after receiving the holy spirit was full of the spirit of God. After utilizing the spirit word of God in defeating the devil it is said that Jesus came forth in the power of God.
All power of God is in His word.

In these days we are seeing this understanding being righteously demonstrated. We must take inventory and see that our God given inner man has a wealth of spirit words waiting to be God orchestrated and breathed upon the world. Out of our belly  rivers of living water (life giving words) are to be given to the lost, sick and dying.

Ghosts and Goosebumps

This understanding of the holy spirit does not negate the proven fact that there are many peripheral physical and spiritual manifestations of God’s spirit. Ghosts and goose bumps are always a possibility in a move of God’s word/spirit. But I believe that with a close investigation of such phenomenon one would discover that God is speaking in most of these manifestations.

The holy spirit is literally a pure, clean and unadulterated breath spoken from the heart of God. Because it is the word of God it is all power. Acts 10:38 declares that God anointed Jesus with the holy spirit and power. Anointing means essentially relationship. The holy spirit/word communicated to Jesus required an agreement on the part of Jesus. Jesus came into agreement with the words of God and was empowered to go about doing good healing all who are oppressed of the devil.

Know that the life of a Christian is a continuous outpouring of the holy spirit. Having agreed with the spirit/word of God we are to in turn allow this river of living water (words) bring life to mankind.

Again let me emphasize that the holy spirit/ word  is an expression of the person of God.

Blessings to All
